Romano x Reader- Admiring from Afar

I jumped at the sound of a knock at the door.

Who could that be?

I glanced through the peephole before unlocking the door to see…
“HEY [NAME]!!! WHAT UPPP!!!”

It was my best friend, [Bf/N].

“Oh!” I smiled at her happily. “It’s nice to see you!”

Her attitude seemed to change slightly, as she leaned in close and whispered secretively, “And um...how is...Your neighbor?”
Then chuckling slightly at my blushing face, she pushed past me, seeing herself in. “Has he confessed yet?”

I took a deep breath and closed the door.

Why did I ever tell her about him?

My new Italian neighbor had managed to catch my eye, and it just so happened that my apartment had a fantastic view of him. If I timed things right, I could catch him on his way home, auburn hair glinting in the dim sunlight.

I was vaguely aware of my heart-rate increasing and tried to shake it off.
It probably wouldn’t work between us. I was way too shy to say anything.
All I was capable of was admiring him from afar…

But of course, I wouldn’t admit any of this to anyone. Not even [Bf/N]. And especially not to Lovino.

“I do not like him. We are just neighbors!”
“Are you sure about that?” [Bf/N] said suggestively, wiggling her eyebrows obnoxiously and making her signature “ORLY” face.
“Yes. I’m positive.” I sighed angrily, shooting her a glare. “Now can you please, just shut up about it?”

“Sure~ Whatever you say~!” Snickering, she made herself comfortable on my couch and I turned away, walking past my window. Glancing out, I caught a glimpse of the one-and-only Lovino Vargas as he was walking home. As usual. I froze, watching him intently.

He looked lost, and seemed to be examining the room number of each apartment he passed.
What was he doing?
Suddenly, he looked up and as our eyes met, I felt a shock shoot through me.

CRAP!

Instinctively, I wrenched the curtains closed and ducked out of sight, squealing in surprise.

“What’s wrong, [Name]!?” [Bf/N] rose from her seat, concerned.
“N-NOTHING!” I stammered, my face turning an unsightly shade of red.

Her eyebrows furrowed. “Are you sure? That sound you just made didn’t sound like ‘Nothing’.”

I nodded vigorously, and stood up, dusting myself off. “Just…saw a cat…sitting outside. It surprised me.”

“Oh! A cat? I wanna see!” My friend started towards the closed curtains and I managed to grab her arm before her hands made contact with the fabric. “NO! I-I mean…” I realized just how weird this was and swallowed nervously.

“I-It’s probably gone by now!” I tried to smile and pretend that I wasn’t acting like a total psycho. “So, there’s really no point!’

“Hmm…I…guess your right…” [Bf/N] was staring at me suspiciously and was just about to speak when there was a knocking coming from the front door which cut her off.

Phew! Saved by the bell! Er…door. Whatever.

“I’ll get it!” I said, relief washing over me.

Awkward situation, Avoided.


Not.


“Hello?” I opened the door and found myself standing face to face with my crush.

“Ah, Ciao. Are you, [Name]?”

I nodded in confusion, praying that I wasn’t blushing.

Even though I couldn’t see her, I could tell that my best friend was watching from somewhere in the room. She was probably eavesdropping as well.

Great.
More explaining to do.

After an awkward moment of silence, Lovino blushed a bit, fumbling with his bag and thrusting a handful of papers at me.

“H-here, I think I-a got some of your-a mail by mistake.” He mumbled, not making eye contact with me.

I felt heat rising in my cheeks and gratefully took the letters. “T-Thank you!”

“It’s-a no problem.”

More awkward silence.
Jeez, why can’t I think of anything to say!?


“U-Um…I-is that all?” I finally managed to stammer out, causing him to sigh and look up at me, face extremely red.

“…No……That wasn’t actually the reason I-a came…I-a came because…I was wondering…”

He took a deep breath.
“W-Would you-a go out with-a me?”

I stared at him in surprise, jaw dropping slightly and mind going blank.
“I-I….Yes.”

“What?” He looked somewhat surprised as well.

“I’d love to go out with you!” I smiled, heart beating a mile a minute.

The Italian smiled back, something I had never seen him do before. “Great! So, I’ll-a pick you up around seven, tomorrow night?”

I nod, somewhere above cloud nine. “Sounds like a plan! See you then, Lovino!”
“Ciao, Bella.”
I closed the door behind him as he walked away and leaned against it, taking a deep breath.

Wow….that had gone more smoothly than expected….

After all of that excitement, all I wanted now was some peace and quie-
“WHOO~! YOU DID IT GIRL!! GOT YOURSELF A DATE WITH A HOTTIE!! NICE GOING!”
My friend laughed loudly, patting my back in congratulations.
“SHUTUP!!!”
