We drove in silence for a few moments. My friend Melanie was behind the wheel and I was in the passenger seat. "Come on!" She said finally. "It'll be fun." I said nothing and began to fiddle with the bow on my blouse. I had nothing to say. "Mattie says he's a pretty nice guy." She continued, tentatively. "He said he's funny too. You like funny, right?" I returned to gazing out the window, watching as the sky grew darker and the dying rays of the sun pierced the sky with hues of orange and gold. The city lights around us began to wink to life.
Why did she insist on doing this? I had to admire her perseverance though. She refused to give up. Regardless, I wasn't mad. I knew she just wanted me to be happy. I managed a half-hearted smile as I turned to her. "Yeah. I'm sure it'll be…interesting." She grinned. "That's the spirit!"
We finally arrived at our destination: A little 60's themed diner. I raised an eyebrow. As Melanie turned off the car, she stopped me before I climbed out. "Okay, a few quick things."
I looked at her in confusion for a moment. "Umm…Okay, Shoot!" She smiled. "Please, try to enjoy yourself and be positive." I roll my eyes. "Yeah, yeah." "Now let's go have a freakin' amazing time!"
Just as I was about to push open the diner's front door and go inside, the door opened by itself! I practically jumped out of my skin! "Hi guys." said a quiet voice. It was just Mathew, holding the door open for us. He had blond hair with a stray curl that stuck out. His purple eyes looked up at us shyly from behind his glasses.
"MATTIE!" Melanie squealed, tackling the shy boy in a hug. "Hi Mel." He smiled at her. "Sup Mathew." I smiled at him and shook his hand. Mathew was a pretty nice dude and Melanie's Boyfriend. He was good to her and I thought they were a good match. "Hey bro! The chicks finally showed up?" A boy who looked extremely similar to Mathew walked up and slapped an arm around his shoulders.
His hair looked similar to the shy Canadian except that it was straighter and had a slight cowlick that stuck out. His blue eyes twinkled mischievously and I found it hard to believe that the two were related.
"Guys, this is my brother. Alfred."
Melanie smiled at him nervously. "Hi! I'm Melanie!"
"Ah! So you're Melanie! Great to meet ya, dude!" Instead of shaking her hand, he gathered her in a huge spine crushing hug.
Once he'd released her, he turned to me. "I'm [Name]." "Sup! You can call me The Hero." I raised my eyebrows. Was this guy for real?
"Right this way, ladies, we've already picked out an awesome booth." Alfred linked arms with me and Melanie and began to lead us off to our already claimed seats with Mathew trailing behind.
Finally, we were seated. I sat next to Melanie, on one side of the table (I had a window seat). Across from me, sat Alfred and across from Melanie, sat Mathew.
Alfred had immediately begun chattering away about this and that and I was already beginning to regret this. Melanie simply smiled and nodded once in a while but for the most part, focused her attention on Mathew who was telling her something about "the way of the maple leaf" or something like that. I didn't really know.
It seemed like an eternity before the waitress finally came to take our drink orders. "What can I get for you?" The young blonde asked. "How about your number?" Alfred joked and for some reason, that ticked me off. This was supposed to be a setup!! Yet, he was flirting with someone else? "I'll have a large coke." I cut in, taking Alfred by surprise. "Ah, I'll have the same." I turned to him, equally surprised. He grinned at me. "Pepsi sucks." I couldn't help but smile back. "Totally."
Melanie ordered a medium sprite and Mathew got a strawberry lemonade. "It's not as sweet as you, though." He said shyly to my friend who "Awww'd" in response. "Isn't Mattie the cutest thing?" She squealed causing him to blush furiously. "Yeah. Adorable." Alfred said sarcastically. I tried to stifle my laughter.
Maybe this guy wasn't so bad after all.
After I found out that we had at least one thing in common, I started to pay more attention to what he was saying and decided to ask some questions.
"What sort of movies do you like?"
"Aww man. I'd have to say…comedy? I like action ones too. And Scary ones are okay."
"I love comedy movies!"
"Really? That's cool!"
It continued like this for a while until it was like talking to an old friend. We swapped stories of adventures, cracked jokes that almost made me spray my coke across the table, and talked about our families.
In the midst of all of this, we ordered quickly and ate slowly so that the conversation wouldn't die.
And boy, could this guy eat! He ordered two hamburgers with a large side order of French fries and even had room for desert, which turned out to be a humongous ice cream sundae. "Hey, [Name], wanna share?" Alfred held out a spoon across the table to me and I smiled happily, accepting it. I loved ice cream. Melanie and Mathew shared a slice of pie (which Alfred and I insisted on tasting in exchange for some ice cream).
I was wishing the night wouldn't end, but sadly after hanging out for a while longer, the boys paid the check and we all headed outside. The moment I stepped out the door, a cold gust of wind seemed to rip right through me and I found myself shivering uncontrollably. I usually didn't get cold so easily, but this had caught me off guard. I mentally kicked myself for forgetting my stupid jacket at home.
"It's gonna be cold tonight!" Melanie had warned me but I had simply brushed her off. I could handle it, surely. Yeah, right.
Alfred seemed to notice how cold I was (but then again, how could you not? I was shaking like a leaf!)and removed his jacket, carefully draping it across my shoulders. I was immediately surrounded by the warm embrace and I sighed happily as my shivering subsided. Turning to Alfred, I smiled sheepishly. "Thanks for that. But wait! Won't you be cold too?" He shook his head and flashed a brilliant smile. "Nah. I'm fine. Heroes don't get cold." I raised an eyebrow as I noticed him beginning to shiver violently as well. "Ah, how about we share?" He tried to smile but it looked really funny with his teeth chattering and I couldn't help but giggle.
"S-s-sure t-t-thing!" He put the jacket back on, then held open a flap and I slipped in, under his arm and wrapped my arms around him. It was so cozy…
I smiled and gently leaned my head against him closing my eyes for a second.
Suddenly, I snapped out of my dreamy state, realizing what I was doing and moved away, blushing slightly. "Dude." I looked up at Alfred and saw him smiling with amusement. "It's fine."
"A-ah. Sorry. And thanks again. It's just…really cold…" I buried my face in Alfred's shirt and jacket so he couldn't see how red my face was becoming. What was wrong with me?
We both stood there in silence and in the cold for a while, huddling together while we waited for Mathew and Melanie to bring Melanie's car around.
"[Name]?" Alfred asked quietly, breaking the silence. I looked up at him. "Yeah?" "I…I'm really glad you came tonight." I felt my face warming up a bit, and I smiled at him, wrapping my arms around him more tightly. "I'm really happy I came too."
I could see the headlights of Melanie's car getting closer and taking a deep breath, decided it was now or never. Gently standing on my tiptoes, I gave Alfred a quick kiss. His eyes widened in surprise and we broke apart just as Melanie pulled up and honked the horn. "Hey, lovebirds. I think it's time to go." My friend stuck her head out the window and grinned. Alfred laughed merrily and I couldn't help but smile and laugh too. This was the best day ever.
As everyone began to go their separate ways, Alfred and I hugged one last time. "Maybe we should hang out again sometime?" I grinned and nodded. "Definitely. I can't wait." "Then the Hero bids you Farewell for now!" Melanie and I both laughed as Alfred unceremoniously began to drag Mathew to their car

When my friend and I were alone once more, sitting in the cozy quiet of her car, she turned to me smiling smugly. "I told you, you would enjoy yourself."
"Yeah, yeah!" She raised her eyebrows. "Shut up!" I laughed turning my face away from her, so she wouldn't see my smile. The truth was, she was right. And for once, I was happy to be wrong.

You let out a small, rather bord sigh, eyes plastered to the window as you held your chin lightly in the palm of your hand. A light drizzle pattered against the glass, droplets falling down rythmecly and forming together to become one. The weather had been like this all day, and hadn't showed any signs of letting up anytime soon. You had woken up that summer morning, hoping that it would have been warm enough out to go take a dip in the lake residing close to your house, or at least decent enough to go relax under the shade of the trees growing in your backyard. But the way it had looked at that moment, you highly doubted that any of that wou

Whoot~! This is the first fan fiction I've written.
I love reading these and decided that I would try my hand at it.
I hope you enjoy it!
I apologize if at times Alfred or Mathew seem OOC. I'm still kind of new at this.... And no offense to you Pepsi fans out there. I just sort of peg Alfred as a coca-cola guy....
Melanie is based off of my real best friend.
The story belongs to me.
I don't own you or Hetalia.
